Primary Health

Derby Aboriginal Health Service (DAHS) provides comprehensive primary healthcare for Aboriginal people in Derby and surrounding remote communities. Our team of doctors, nurses and Aboriginal Health Worker Practitioners deliver culturally safe care focused on improving health outcomes and supporting the wellbeing of individuals, families and community.

Services are delivered at the Derby clinic and through regular visits to remote community clinics, ensuring people can access essential healthcare close to home.

How we work

Our clinical team provides a wide range of primary healthcare services, including general medical consultations, health checks, chronic disease management, treatment of illness and injury, and preventative healthcare.

The clinic works closely with other DAHS programs to ensure patients receive coordinated and holistic care, including support for child health, chronic conditions and social and emotional wellbeing.

To improve access to healthcare across the region, DAHS uses telehealth technology to connect patients with doctors and specialists when they are not physically present in the community. This allows for real-time consultations, follow-up appointments and specialist advice without the need for patients to travel long distances.

DAHS is committed to ensuring patients receive ongoing support for their health. Our systems help coordinate follow-up appointments, recalls and referrals so patients can continue managing their health and receive the care they need at the right time.

Immunisations

Derby Aboriginal Health Service provides routine childhood and adult immunisations to patients attending the service.

Immunisations are an important part of preventing illness and protecting the health of individuals, families and communities. DAHS supports both scheduled immunisations and opportunistic immunisations when patients attend the clinic for other care.

Parents and carers can speak with clinic staff about childhood immunisations, upcoming vaccinations and any questions or concerns they may have. Adult immunisations are also available and can be discussed with a DAHS general practitioner or clinical staff.

Immunisation records are maintained to help ensure patients receive the right vaccinations at the right time. If you are unsure about your own immunisation status or that of your child, please speak with clinic staff who can help check your records and provide advice.
